Change swipe shortcut in Messaging app

Hi, maybe I am not looking properly but I am not finding a way to change the swipe shortcuts in the Messaging app. I hardly use SMS and am happy to keep mine to a bare minimum. Swiping is convenient and I would like right-to-left swiping to delete the text message/conversation. For now, it seems like swiping in either direction only archives the conversation, and I am not finding a way to change that in the settings. Is this not actually possible? Does it make sense to have the same shortcut for both swiping directions? Hope I just overlooked something. Thanks!
