A little preamble first - I'd been considering rooting my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra but had known in the fringes of my mind about GrapheneOS; so as it was time to upgrade I thought I'd take the plunge with a Pixel 7 Pro and that was earlier this month.
Long story short this project is the kind of re-affirmation of positive technology in my life I've not felt since I moved to Arch Linux and Gnome from Windows nearly a decade ago.
This project has surpassed every need I had when moving devices, above and beyond the privacy improvements, a lot of which I was not able to do with S20 Ultra with two of the major points being:
- Reducing from 2 devices with separate numbers to a single device (needed multiple accounts on identical apps for two businesses)
- Removing Google apps, Samsung apps, and other uninstallable apps
Other bonuses:
- Improved battery life (phenomenal in comparison is all I can say!)
- UI (IMHO it looks 1000% better than OneUI that's on the S20 Ultra)
Thank you to everyone involved, I have started donating and will be increasing the amount as I really feel this is the best possible project to even have a chance to make a dent in the entrenched mobile phone providers/OSes.
Again many, many thanks to everyone involved.
