  • Google Play location services on a per-app basis?

Recent grapheneos user. Want to move away from big tech but not ready to sever "completely" just yet, so there are certain apps i use that require google play services, and some of them seem to rely on google play for location as well.

First of all, i guess leaving google play services in charge of handling location data, it's just feeding it all straight to google? and second: when i have left it on, quite frankly i don't like seeing the location access indicator pop up when i'm not doing anything on my phone that would warrant any app accessing my location data.

when using apps requiring google play location, i have been manually enabling this in settings, and disabling when done. is there an easy way to automate this that i'm missing?

benis apps using location should work without turning rerouting to the OS off. Were you perhaps indoors where GNSS signals are weaker or nonexistent? If so, you can keep rerouting to the OS on and turn on network location by following the usage guide here: https://grapheneos.org/usage#network-location

There's almost no reason to use Google Play Services location services now that GrapheneOS has its own network location.

thanks! the network location setting did the trick.
