How does GrapheneOS protect attacks via calls or SMSes?

I hear that sms/mms carry payloads or links that can be used to attack phones if there are vulnerabilities. Since GrapheneOS uses AOSP's messages and dialer app, how does Graphene protect us against these attacks?

ezze Note that GrapheneOS makes extensive use of memory tagging (MTE) on Pixel 8 and 9 devices (source), so protection against heap corruption is better on those devices.
