not receiving group messages from iphone users

Hello, I am struggling to figure out how to receive messages from iphone users. I can get them from an individual but not when its in a group message. I have AT&T and my phone number is not registered with imessage anymore. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

housepad my wife was having the same issue, also on AT&T. Tried many things, even switching to other providers. Ultimately put her on an iPhone because I'd rather her have the security of iMessage since none of her contacts are willing to use signal. Took a while to "lock down" the phone but for her threat model it fits much better.

housepad Is MMS otherwise working for you? Try sending media. The issue could be that Apple is trying to use RCS if you used the stock OS first.

yes I looked at my friends phone and it is that apple is forcing RCS to send me messages. How would I make that go away?

GrapheneOS I'm pretty sure I've done this, but I'm experiencing issues still...

Its very sporadic how it works. My wife (p10pxl, previously p7p), and I (p6p), always grapheneos since 2021, never RCS, on the SAME group of somebody else.... she receives the messages, I don't. Why? No idea. Same service provider, same OS, same plan even.

Conclusion: aPPle is just fundamentally broken.
