  • Lost interest in GrapheneOS after setup. What strategy to use more mobile?

Hi

I completely lost interest in GrapheneOS after setup. What strategy do I use to use more mobile devices?

I hardly use mobile devices, I prefer Desktop with Linux. I hate both iOS and Android, sorry!
For security and privacy reasons I should use GrapheneOS more, but unfortunately I can’t bring myself to do so.
I’m a 90s kid and prefer Desktop operating systems like Linux (less secure than GrapheneOS).

    Scott What's your threat model? What do you want GrapheneOS to do for you?

    Would you be better using a "dumbphone" instead?

        Scott What strategy do I use to use more mobile devices?

        If you don't have a Pixel 8 or later, desktop mode will be impractical due to the lack of Displayport Alt Mode.

        If you do have a Pixel 8 or later, it might make sense to wait a while for desktop mode to be more usable. Probably by then it will be feasible to run Linux somewhat-safely isolated via pVM (perhaps even multiple Linux VMs for different purposes).

            For me... It is primarily a communications device with a phone, contacts, messaging and email (although I almost never respond to emails from my phone). It is also a camera and gallery. Sometimes a navigation device. And a web browser for occasional use. I don't try to make it more than this.

            Maybe lower your expectations

            I am also a Linux desktop user btw.

              Scott it's just a habit thing you'll see.
              Many things I disliked using but became familiar and even grew an appreciation after awhile. Just my opinion

                  On desktop I am using Linux myself.

                  My Phone with GrapheneOS is primarily a communication and navigation device.

                  When I am out of the house I also use it occasional to look stuff up on the internet or use it to ID plants.

                  I also do all my online banking on my Phone due to the security Graphene provides.

                  I really appreciate that GrapheneOS just fades into the background when using the phone. No nagging notifications to use the phone more, no preinstalled bloatware like social media apps

                  Most of the time my phone is on my desk and is quiet it only notifies me if a messages arrived or if it needs charging

                  I would use a dumb phone if GrapheneOS did not exist.
                  I view a mobile phone as a necessary evil, the less I use it the better. GrapheneOS keeps out my way.

                      A GrapheneOS device can very well be used as a dumb phone. No need to go back to insecure legacy phones without encrypted communications.

                      Scott I feel similarly. I moved from dumb phone in order to be able to type the address book entries on desktop because the phone is small and sync it. And decent camera.

                          geko Even then they are not totally dumb. Most are loaded with social junk and some seem to be network boot (ICBW) which makes me run far far away.

                          I'd go for a dumb phone with only functions being phone, contacts and text. I'd say mid 90's tech.
