It's possible this only impacts 9th generation Pixels in which case our initial 1/5000 estimate was probably accurate based on most users not being on 9th generation Pixels.
Workaround for Android 15 QPR2 fingerprint firmware glitch on Pixel 9 (non-Pro)
Hmm; I may have spoken too soon. Upon another reboot, the fingerprint functions have again disappeared. While it was working briefly, fingerprint functions within apps was flaky / intermittent.
Has anyone had an issue with fingerprint availability on 6th, 7th or 8th generation Pixels?
GrapheneOS Pixel 7: no issue with fingerprint 👍
Pixel 9 here. No fingerprint functionality after a full shut down and a restart. Will try more restarts and report back.
6a no issue with fingerprint unlock
Pixel 9 as well, fingerprint option disappeared after a system update, persisted through the first shutdown cycle, then came back after a second.
No issue on 6th,7th and 8th gen pixels.
Test models :
- 6a, 6, 6 pro
- 7, 7a
- 8,8 pro
Unfortunately no pixels 9th in my collection to check.
Second Pixel 9 with GrapheneOS at home, same issue happened, resolved after 3rd shutdown cycle.

I have the same issue on my Pixel 8 (Stock Google rom Android 15 QPR2).
GrapheneOS I am
I have a Pixel 9 and have the issue.
Can confirm on a Pixel 9 with 2025030800.
One full power cycle fixed it, previous restarts did not.
kaiproctor Are the fingerprint options completely missing or does it just not work but the options are still present?
GrapheneOS fingerprint options completely missing
Can confirm, fingerprint options are completely missing after the most recent update on my Pixel 9. Multiple restarts and hard reboots have not resolved the issue. Fingerprint / biometric settings have also disappeared completely from the Security and privacy settings menu.
Another shutdown and boot solved the issue, thanks!
It's optimizing apps again.
Pixel 9, Build 2025030900
A further update, the latest reboot has seen fingerprint functionality disappear again... I will see if further shutdowns fix the issue again.
