Different haptics / vibration when charging

Hello everyone,

First post here, so an enormous thank you to the devs / community, installing GOS and this will likely be my long term phone OS.

One thing that I wondered, as it's also a first Pixel. I noticed that two times (now) the phone would vibrate one long time when plugging it to charge and then vibrate again just after. The second time, I was more careful and there were two short(er) vibrations after the first long vibration that happens when plugging it to charge.

The cable looks OK and that's an official Google charger. The only thing so far that was common to the two times it vibrated in a row was that the battery was below 25%.

From the little I could find online, issues around vibration and charging are either due to faulty connection or software issue, except some rare references about this being linked to quick charge.

Has anyone encountered this? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure a single vibration when charging begins is normal for Pixels. As far as I can remember, mine have always done that out of the box.

If you don't like it, you can turn that off under Settings > Sounds & vibration > Charging sounds & vibration.

I've never noticed two vibrations though. Is it possible that the second was associated to a notification? Maybe saying Battery Saver was being turned off?

Hello, thanks for the response.

Sorry if that wasn't clear. Most of the time, yes, there's one vibration. But what surprised me is that it happened twice that the initial long vibration was followed by two shorter vibrations, so for a total of 3 (one long then 2 short)

No notifications that I could see or anything else which is why I wonder if there may be a charging issue or otherwise whether it's linked to the status of the battery in some ways.

Two short vibrations would indicate a notification. Maybe it's gone so fast that you can't see it.

Try enabling your sounds, also for notifications and check again.

QPR2 fucked up the OS vibrations. Google is planning to fix it allegedly.

Re. notification, I don't think so. I have notification history enabled, I'll double check if this happens again.

And re. the QPR2, good point, it may be this. I am trying to reproduce it and cannot consistently. Phone and charger are all new.

trashaccount, the QPR2 was not included into GOS though so far no? That was released today, so that would be something else?

graphuser It reached stable recently. The Alpha users experienced this earlier. Its the same thing.

For what it's worth, I think that part of the answer is that I was plugging the phone when it was locked, first vibration. Then I unlocked it, and got a second vibration which is likely due to the USB connection being switched from power only to power + data.
