Hi after the last update 2025030300 which I updated my pixel 8 pro with on 5th March, I don't hear any sound (voice of the other person) when calling or when I'm called. I don't call or receive calls frequently so I only realised this on the 6th of march (yesterday) instead of the 5th. From phone history the previous call(s) I made or recieved were on the 4th of March and things were working fine then.

I have an eSIM with an operator called Spusu in the UK. I contacted their (horribly slow) customer service and they just kept repeating it nothing from their end. Deleted and recreated the eSIM with new profile they gave, powered off/on etc but nothing has worked so far.

When I call, soon the call is (I'm guessing) connected because the call timer starts like normal but there's no sound. Similarly when I'm called, the phone rings, I pick up and then no sound at all. The others can't hear me as well (so no sound going from me to them or coming to me from them).

Could this be due to the current update? Is there any way to know? If it was a physical sim I could have tried it on another phone just to confirm it's really not the carrier, but it's an eSIM and I don't have another eSIM compatible phone.

Anyone having this problem after the recent update?

(Just to add, SMS and Internet work fine, just the voice call that's being the problem)

monozygote I was going to say check the volume of the calls but you said that both parties can't hear each other so I doubt it's that unless you somehow managed to revoke mic access and turned the volume to 0 which is highly unlikely..

I run P8Pro with alpha and always update as soon as the update drops and I don't have any issues, and I do get a lot of calls via regular mobile unfortunately...

0xsigsev Yes, I rocked the vol both up and down before and during the call to see if makes any difference and it doesn't. I just checked the permissions and mic is allowed (i never changed any of that for the phone app anyway). Just to see if toggling those on and off works, I removed mic and called and added it back and called. No difference, the call starts (or at-least the call timer starts) sometime after dialling the number and it's dead silence.

0xsigsev That's right, media is all fine. I even paired it to a bluetooth just to see if that worked (just in case there's something going one between telephony and physical speakers/mic). Same, no sound in either direction. Media is fine on bluetooth too.

One thing the operator said was that they have rolled out VoLTE recently for Pixels (like on 27th feb or something) and I shouold see VoLTE in my sim profile. I don't see this. Google (pixel) has many problems with MVNOs and support is crummy. However I'm not even looking for VoLTE as I was fine just making "normal" GSM (or whatever it's called) calls so far. According to them I should immediately update to lastest release by Google to get that feature working. Assuming that 2025030300 is that update, I told them I already have the lastest (ofc didn't tell them it's GoS because then they will just blindly fixate on that and provide no further help).

Anyway i have 3 variables -> GoS update broke it OR their 27/Feb rollout combined with GoS update broke it OR my pixel has conked out. Just trying to see how come to the right conclusion. I'm going to my mate's tomo who has a physical sim, so going to insert that and try. If that works, at-least the Pixel being bad will be eliminated (thank goodness, it's just a year old :| )

Update: installed 2025030800 today and this issue is resolved. I see the VoLTE option in eSIM profile as mentioned above and as bonus also see 5G symbol for data (prev this was only LTE).

It seems Spusu (MVNO) have sorted out their stuff with Google and the new update from GOS probably includes the support (from upstream Android?). The calls are back to being normal (and much better due to VoLTE support).

Anyway, life's back to normal after 4 days of no telephony :( :| :)
