Seafile oe OwnCloud?

Currently just deployed an OC instance for testing. Seems to work ok including the mobile app. However I'm concerned because they aren't developing the traditional system any more including not upgrading to use current PHP. Ubuntu has a 7.4 PHP that is supposedly maintained and updated but I'm a little uneasy about that. OC is pushing their nect gen product but it seems targeted mostly towards organizations.

Started looking at Seafile installed via Docker. Looks good and is also open source.

Any thoughts on whether I should plow ahead with OC or abandon and go with Seafile?

Have you considered NextCloud? Its the OC sister, but better.

Yeah, read a lot on it. A lot of not so great feedback. Also apparently you need a NC account and the server calls home to it periodically.

Not so great feedback? Probably because nextcloud actually has a few real users, which owncloud doesn't. You're always going to have "not so great feedback" on self-hosted systems, primarily because of people who don't have the knowledge or competence to deal with it.

The only nextcloud account you need is the one you create ON YOUR OWN SERVER. If your server "calls home", it will just be checking for updates to notify you about. Feel free to disable that behavior if you don't like it.

NetRunner88 Yeah, I know I can self-host. It's what I'm doing now with OC.

Good to know on the telemetry issue.

Did some reading and migration from OC 10.15.x isn't available currently (10.13.x is the most recent), maybe those lag behind a little bit.

NetRunner88 yeah but the newest version of OC it can migrate from is 10.13.x. I'm on 10.15.

Unless I'm reading it wrong or they haven't updated the migration chart in a while.

Seafile is good. It seems better than owncloud.

Believe me! I used Nextcloud for years! With every update your nextcloud self hosted instance will become crippled for few days cause they update nextcloud but not there apps and many more like if you need call setup high performance back end or to run another app run another server blah blah lots of dependency and so much config and knowledge and time consumer i run nextcloud almost 2 years and almost 1 year i spended fixing and improving configs and security sometimes dependency cause not just nextcloud you need to improve php security then proxy like nginx or apache security then webrtc security many more! Then i checked owncloud same shit ... But little bit less work but almost same ... Then i started using syncthing for years then i found SFTPGo at first i thought it will be same shit ... But oh boy it's simple yet best self hosting file management system i found
I am running this for few months no issue ... Every update i got from package manager it will update and start running again on itself no issue

how different experiences can be.
self hosting nextcloud for my family for several years now... sharing pictures, files, contacts, calender, bookmarks,... between us and our devices... iphones, pc, androids..
no problems
