In order to use VPN connection on my computer connected to the phone's hotspot I install and run a VPN app (tried ProtonVPN and CalyxVPN from F-droid) and EveryProxy from Aurora Store. In Firefox and other applications on the computer (Ubuntu) I set up _gateway:1080 as SOCKS5 proxy.

Until recently everything worked just fine. But since a few days ago I always get "can’t connect" error in the browser. Rebooting both the phone and the computer and starting both apps again does not change anything.

If I stop a VPN app, then the proxy provides the Internet access, but of course with my real IP, not VPN. And if I stop EveryProxy, then the message changes to "The proxy server is refusing connections". So the proxy itself is working fine.

At the same time if I use Vanadium on the phone itself, it sucsessfully connects to the Internet with VPN.

So it looks like Proxy and VPN work just fine separately, but for some reason they don't work together although I didn't change anything.

I will be happy to get any ideas on to what I can try in order to get the access to VPN from the computer again.

Its the first time ever that I can't even narrow down the problem since all the software involved seems to work fine separately, but doesn't work together. Also, the problem arised out of nothing, since I haven't changed any settings, the only thing that could change are updates.

Please suggest what I could do to narrow down the problem or advice where else I could ask to get attention from people who might be able to suggest.

carbon-layer I'm not sure a lot of people here are using Every Proxy, in which case there might not be a lot of answers.

The query doesn't include version numbers for anything (GrapheneOS build number, Every Proxy version number, ProtonVPN number), so it is infeasible for anybody to try to reproduce the situation.

Meanwhile, I believe the project's suggestion is for each endpoint (phone, laptop) to run an independent VPN client. You could try searching the forum for previous questions from proxy users.
