In Call Volume Too Loud

I have tried using the search but unable to find a solution to my issue.

I have an issue with phone calls being too loud through the earpiece, even when adjusting the volume (settings, in call etc..). Regardless of setting or method of changing the in call volume it remains as if its on loud speaker (of which it is not).

Is there something I'm missing or is this a known issue and if so is there a way to rectify this?

Have you checked under Settings -> Sound & vibration -> Spatial Audio?

I have the same problem on my Pixel 8a. Moving the volume slider does nothing for call volume, and it's so loud I can't have a private conversation at all unless I'm alone in a room.

I might have found the solution. "Hearing aid compatibility" was on in the settings. I am using a hearing aid, but I don't remember even seeing this setting before, so I guess it's on by default. In any case, disabling it seems to have solved the issue for me.

At least for me, on a pixel 6, hearing aid compatibility is off.

In call volume at maximum level happens occasional to me, too. It started a long time ago, so not a version specific. The volume buttons work as expected and it can be lowered with the button but it's annoying, I agree.

However, as I rarely use regular phone calls I have not enough observation to spot patterns or to find the culprit.

My Hearing aid compatibility is off as I've never touched it.
