there is an app Private lock, found on F-Droid. I have used it but don't at present.
Its old, simple and adjustable and it works, whether its FOSS I cant remember

I wish there was a native feature like this in GOS without having to rely on a third party app (which no doubt, is not a bad app, but I will always favor native implementations for these kind of things).
Being in Europe, phone theft is still pretty common, to me having the most secure operating system is pointless if you get your phone stolen while unlocked when using it in the streets. And I would argue that it is probably the most important "physical" feature for common folks that aren't at risk of targeted attacks. Petty thieves will never bother with data theft IF the phone is locked, they will just reflash it, on the other hand we could imagine that if the phone was unlocked, they could check what they have access to and what data they can extract on the phone before reflashing it.

mrn I used Private Lock in Europe too. Does its job well.

Would use it still if I hadn't almost all of my apps on my tablet now and the phone is nearly empty regarding apps and data.

mrn You're right, phone theft is probably more common than a targeted attack.
This can be partially mitigated by having private apps, for example banking apps, in a separate profile that is not running in the background, but I say partially because your phone can always be stolen while you're casually checking your bank balance.

BaronAfanas I did not know about the app until now, so I will start using it. Either way if it is implemented one day in GOS, I will use the native version.
And I agree that it is an important feature to have even if you don't have important data, it is a matter of peace of mind, knowing that whatever you had on your phone, your phone will be locked automatically and as such, automatically restarted and not have on the fly encryption (don't remember the wording here) after a few hours of being locked (which I enabled that as well).

cdflasdkesalkjfkdfkjsdajfd Yes that's the problem, no matter how many locks you can have on the system, applications, features, if the phone gets stolen on a terrible timing, it can be dangerous for the safety of your data.
