How to make sure RCS messaging is NOT used?

When looking for my question here I found multiple people asking GrapheneOS to support RCS. Therefore I fear it might have been enabled in "Messaging" by now.

I only recently became aware that RCS is not only a standard developped by Google, but in most cases involves Google servers to deliver messages. That is why I want to make sure my Pixel does not use RCS.

So, does the "Messaging" app now use RCS ??
If yes how can this be disabled?
Would there be any adverse side effects to the system by doing adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.messaging ?
If not it is not yet enabled, will there be a warning if it ever is going to be enabled?

Moschatus GrapheneOS Messaging does not support RCS yet since AOSP Messaging doesn't support it. Carrier-based RCS might be supported in the future.

We strongly recommend against using ADB in production, and to a lesser extent having developer options enabled at all. Disabling system components and changing under the hood settings with ADB is extremely dangerous.

The Google messaging app uses RCS, you can turn this off in settings, its usually enrolled automatically.

You will also get a notification in the chat if RCS is active or not, note it can take a few messages to appear.
Best way to avoid RCS is to use the AOSP messaging app GOS includes, however SMS should be avoided if thats your intention.

Yes my question was aimed specifically at at the "Messaging" app provided by GOS. In "Advanced settings" of this app there are settings concerning group messaging. "Improved group chat functionality" is one progress attributed to RCS according to Wikipedia. That makes me wonder if the GOS messaging app does use RCS. Do you know for sure that it does not?

Moschatus Yes, only Google messaging app supports RCS hence an entire thread about it.

If you implement RCS, please do provide a switch for users to prevent it.

Today I saw on my device an app "com.shannon.rcsservice". Of course this sounds like it would provide RCS.
Just to be sure: It does not?

Moschatus It actually does. but you still need an app capable of using it to send RCS messages.
