Workarounds for root requirements?

Hello,

I'm replacing a 2019 Motorola with LineageOS 22.1 and root via Magisk by a Pixel 6a with GrapheneOS. Impressed by the Pixel and GOS so far.

With a rootless GOS I do run into a few issues however. Wondering if there are workarounds for these applications:

The Pixel will serve as a router/hotspot. Sharing the phone's VPN with a desktop pc over a hotspot seems to require root. Is there a way to share the VPN over a hotspot without?
Automation. responds to automated sms messages. Is there a way GrapheneOS can send an automated sms in response to a trigger?
Adaway needs root to block ads on a system and app level. For example Adaway keeps the Ookla speedtest app clean.

lakeTetra Adaway needs root to block ads on a system and app level.

You can block ads system-wide using an app such as RethinkDNS, which will use the VPN slot. Last I tried it it had lots of customisation options, lots of filter lists, etc. You can use it as an ad blocker along with connecting to a VPN tunnel with a Wireguard config file.
