SMS causes errors

SMS is not working.

Messaging (default app) doesn't show new messages. Sent messages disappear or cause "Not sent. Tap to retry" message. Tap to retry causes "Sending..." message that lasts for minutes. A Java error message flashes randomly.

Fossify Messages shows new messages. Sent messages show "Not sent. Touch to retry" message. An error flashes "Couldn't send message, error code: 1".

Email is inconsistent and most messages don't send.

How can I fix this?

I think a developer would definitely want to see that Java error in that case. Even better if it includes a complete stack trace. The Java error might be in the log file for the SMS app or in the system log after such failure to send an SMS has happened. Since you can reproduce the issue reliably, see if you can get hold of that Java error message with stack trace.

If possible, check if your SIM card works fine in another phone.

If you disconnect from Wifi, are you able to use data traffic through 4G/5G? Like browsing the web?

Go to Settings app -> Network and internet -> SIM card -> Your SIM card. Make sure network type is set to 4G (not 4G only) and that 2G is enabled. Try again.

If that does not work. Try also going to Settings app -> System -> Reset and Recovery -> Reset mobile network settings. Try again.

Unfortunately, I still get the same errors when sending messages from that profile.

I'd like to know why since none of my settings or apps have changed!

I'm facing the same issue.

Facts:
E-sim, set to 5G

On my owner profile everything is working.

On my secondary profile: sending causes the same error as OP mentioned. And I'm unable to see new messages (receiving and sending). But I get notifications.
If I install e.g. fossify SMS I'm able to see all new messages. But I'm unable to send.
