Pixel 8Pro clock lags behind

Not sure if this is a GOS or rather a hardware issue but my Pixel 8 Pro recently shows extreme clock lag as soon as the phone is not connected to the internet to synchronize time. It is not my my main phone so I often have it off for longer periods. Turning it off for a day, time will lag behind 30min to an hour! I noticed when I turned on the phone in flight mode and set an alarm in the evening. It rang over 2h too late. It does set the correct time as soon as there is a cellular or wifi connection but still, that's the worst clock I have ever seen! Clearly the internal real-time clock has some serious issues but I could not find anything about that problem when i searched online. The phone is about a year old and barely used, battery is always around 75%.
I also have a Pixel 6 with GOS which keeps time fine even if off for a week.

What do you think? Is this a hardware issue or could it be GrapheneOS related?

eri8 another person had a similarly inaccurate hardware clock in this thread: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/10895-time-not-updated-when-phone-was-off-in-airplane-mode. As the project account said later on in the thread, it's not normal for it to be that inaccurate.

Hardware related. My phone's hardware clock is much more accurate, and I'm obviously using GrapheneOS.

I am still baffled by this, I am no expert but I fail to see how a hardware issue could cause such erratic time-keeping behavior.

For the past week I have been turning off the phone for 24h and observed the clock drift. Then I connected to wifi to let the phone correct the time and turned it off again for 24h. And to my surprise clock lag was all over the place from day to day. One day it was only a minute behind, the next day 3.5h. Then about 45min, then 3min and so on.

All I can say is that the clock always lags behind and is never faster than it should be. There also seem to be cases when the lag almost inexistent so the internal clock is theoretically able to measure time fairly accurately. How and under what circumstances the multi-hour lag is triggered eludes me so far. But it is not a constant factor. And it only started around December.

eri8 I am no expert but I fail to see how a hardware issue could cause such erratic time-keeping behavior.

The expectation is that when the phone is "off" some small piece of hardware stays on to count seconds passing. If there is a problem with that piece of hardware then the count will be off.

I am facing the same problem on the 8th series when the phone is off for a long time. It's not new, it's happening a lot of times
