And it's also fully proprietary, so you can't actually verify any of their claims about end to end encryption. It also exposes all of your metadata to Facebook, which is probably just as bad as leaking the actual content of your messages.

Seriously? How do you use FB Messenger w/o an FB account? Are you thinking that you can create a true anonymous FB account? I suggest you research the methods Meta used in their apps to fingerprint you.

Privacy has many elements. I suggest you check out this messenger matrix by German pen tester Mike Kuketz for a good starting point on what messengers are recommended. Signal (Molly) is not perfect, but my choice when it comes to privacy + convenience + adoption.

No, you still need to create an account with an email or phone number, all message history data is automatically stored on Meta's servers for backup without you being able to prevent it and metadata is collected.

Molly and SimpleX are the two most recommended messaging applications if you're looking for security and privacy.

I managed to convince most important people in my life to use Signal (while I'm using Molly). I am overjoyed to have achieved something that took me two years to do. Now, away with Whatsapp and the like. My default SMS Messenger is disabled and I ignore regular phone calls. You want to mingle with me? Use Signal. I'm okay in my own company.
