Gallery App and Photo Editing Issue

Hi, so I've just installed GOS and so far so good, but I have a question. When I edit a photo in the gallery App, the date of when the photo was modified seems to overwrite the date it was created. So if I take a picture on the 1st Jan and then edit it in the 12th, it'll show up in my photo gallery (or any other photo app) as being taken on the 12th. Is there any way to stop this happening? It means that if I don't edit my photos straight away, it'll mess up any coherent organization if my photos.

Finch you could replace the ancient and featureless Gallery app with Fossify Gallery (pretty good replacement, I never liked photo editing in Aves for example which was replacing my old photos with new version and stashing original photo in a hidden folder).

It provides a toggle in the Settings that keeps the original old last modified date. Never mind about what people say about spaghetti code used in Fossify stuff. This is a pretty decent and my go to app.

The GrapheneOS Camera app strips EXIF data by default. You can turn it off in the in-app settings.

By default, EXIF metadata is stripped for captured images and only includes the orientation. Stripping metadata for videos is planned but not supported yet. Orientation metadata isn't stripped since it's fully visible from how the image is displayed so it doesn't count as hidden metadata and is needed for proper display. You can toggle off stripping EXIF metadata in the More Settings menu opened from the settings dialog. Disabling metadata stripping will leave the timestamp, phone model, exposure configuration and other metadata. Location tagging is disabled by default and won't be stripped if you enable it.
