Bolt.eu App stopped working

Hi, does anyone got the latest Bolt App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ee.mtakso.client&pcampaignid=web_share) version (CA.146.0) working on GrapheneOS?

I installed it a few years ago on GrapheneOS, set up an account it was all working fine. Now I changed phones, installed it again and I cannot login anymore. The app displays a text saying it sent a text message to verify my number but it never arrives - it doesn't crash, though.

The app uses the Integrity API (I get the new notification from GrapheneOS that shows that the app used that API), so I fear that's the reason. However, I was wondering if anyone else got it working somehow?

An SMS? Could be a carrier issue then.

justjulian Tried on stock PixelOS. No issues there: SMS, phone call, and WhatsApp verification messages are all received reliably. On GrapheneOS the app tells me it sent a message / is calling me but I'm not actually receiving a message/call. Same carrier, same number. For the WhatsApp verification method carrier shouldn't be relevant, as I'm connected to WiFi.

Every time I request a code, GrapheneOS instantly gives me the notification that Bolt used the Play Integrity API. Very annoying correlation. Blocking the API doesn't make the code arrive. I'm assuming the codes are simply not sent from Bolt's service provider if the app detects… things.

Exploit protection compatibility mode is enabled.

I'm not getting the SMS nor phone calls either. Will test on stock.

@fid02 Thanks for testing and confirming! This "protection" of Bolt is a bit weird on the app level since they even offer a web service and this works on a mobile browser: https://bolt.eu/en-ke/blog/how-to-request-a-bolt-ride-without-downloading-the-app/
Though, doesn't help much since phone number and app are on two different devices in my case :D

I checked the logs, quite a few error messages but not sure if related, since the app doesn't crash. Can share them but I guess you also checked them already. It's a pity that app developers use such weird methods nowadays. Security by obscurity strikes again.

Just installed it and logged in using the passkey method (I had it set up previously). The app made no attempts to use Play Integrity.

Hito No, I didn't find a workaround yet. I guess contacting the app developers is always a possibility, though I doubt it will change much.

Indeed, the passkey sign-in works for me on GrapheneOS. Although setting up a passkey appears to require the app, so…

And today signing in with the SMS method actually sent me an SMS and let me sign in on GrapheneOS. How about you?

fid02 Indeed, today it worked. Maybe we caused enough server error logs for them to investigate :D
I also found the Passkey option now, but I couldn't set it up. It said device not compatible, weird. But so far so good, rest seems to work.

You need a password manager with passkey support. Bolt doesn't appear to allow storing them on a security key. The password manager needs to be enabled in the Settings app > Passwords, passkeys and accounts. And you need Sandboxed Google Play, sure. I was able to store one using Proton Pass without hassle.
