How to enable mic permission all the time

I'm trying to use a screen recorder app. Works great except when I switch from it to the app I want to screen record, the microphone cuts out. I went into permissions and can't figure out how to change permission from ”when using the app" to "all the time".

Yes, I know it's a security risk, but I need this IN IRDER TO USE THE APP. I'll turn it off when I'm done. It makes the app semi-useless if I can't set the permission properly.
No, I'm not trying to record the sound of the app I'm screen recording, I'm trying to record myself explaining how to use the app as a tutorial.

Is there a reason you're using a screen recorder app? There's already a built-in recording feature with the ability to use microphone.

Creature Apps have to implement this by running a foreground service with the microphone type which will allow them to keep recording as long as the foreground service is running. Sounds like the app only works with ancient versions of Android.

The built-in feature allows you to record the entire screen or a single app.

Optionally, you can also record sound (there is a toggle for this) and select between

device audio
microphone
device audio and microphone

as the sound source.
