Assistant doesn't know when I'm driving

Can anyone help me with Google Assistant integration with Waze / Google Maps?
I know "OK Google" isn't supported.

I've got both Waze and Google Assistant set up.
In Waze, I start navigation to some destination.
In Waze, I touch the mic icon, and Google Assistant opens.
I say "What's my ETA?" and Assistant looks up a dictionary definition of "ETA".
On my stock phone, these same actions cause Google Asssitant to say "You'll arrive in X minutes."

Can this be fixed? What am I doing wrong?

Partial solution.
I got this working in Google Maps, but Waze is still not integrating directly with Driving Mode.
This is what I did:
Open Google App > Settings > Google Assistant > Transportation > (scroll to bottom) > Driving Mode > Enable When Navigating in Google Maps

Edit: I noticed the "When navigating in Google Maps" option is disabled in my stock phone... So strange.

Note that I have 'Personal Results' turned off. This setting doesn't seem to matter. On my stock phone, I also have Personalization turned off and Driving Mode in Waze works fine.

It's still necessary to manually touch the Microphone icon, but "What's my ETA" and such works in Google Maps. It still does not work in Waze. GRRR!!

So the 'Driving Mode > Enable When Navigating in Google Maps' option disappeared.
But the voice commands when Driving in Google Maps are still working. It still does not work in Waze. GRRR!!

So things are moving... sideways?

I've had some conversations with Waze support on this, and they are ongoing.

Starting recently, the Assistant in Waze on GrapahneOS actually works for some, but not all commands.
Commands related to creating reports, stopping navigation, etc., are actually working! (It's still necessary to manually tap on the Assistant icon in Waze.)
Commands needing to know the current drive, like "What's my ETA" and "What's my next turn" have a different error: "Sorry, I can't do that with Waze yet." (And yes, I have the 'Share drive with Google option turned on.)

Waze support might be listening? Thank you!!

Of course, things seem to be going in the opposite direction with Google Maps.
The little Assistant icon no longer appears at the bottom left.
Pressing the other Assistant icon at the top right just returns google searches for all reports and navigation commands.
These were previously working through the (now-missing) bottom-left Assistant icon!

Google Maps is partially working again.
The little Asssitant icon at the bottom left is still missing.
But it seems to be responding to "What my ETA" and the other reporting commands again.
It can't answer "What's my next turn" for whatever reason.

This thread is becoming a blog -- if this helps anyone, please 'Like' the original post to let me know I should keep posting.

"What's my ETA?" is now working with Waze + Google Assistant + GrapheneOS!
"What's my next turn?" returns a new error: "Sorry, I can't do that with Waze yet."

This actually agrees with the results on my stock Samsung phone.
