Red Note account rejected

I tried to download Red Note after tiktok was banned, lt wont let me make an account saying "The device is unusual". I thought this is interesting because I didn't get this response when I made a tiktok account or any western social media account. Any workarounds? I'm genuinely interested in the app.

Let's not discuss politics here. Everyone has their reasons to (not) use specific apps. GOS allows for great security, sandboxing and agency over our data, everything else is up to the end user.

I'm not familiar with red note. A good start though is to create a new user profile and install the app there (you can install it from your owner profile in the user profile settings). Now you can start giving permissions, enabling exploit protection compatibility mode and so forth without compromising your privacy and see whether that makes it work. If you can make it work this way, please share your results here.

Other than that: If the problem only occurs for account creation and not account login, a workaround could be creating the account on another (maybe a friend's) device and then logging in on your GOS device. Just make sure you don't link it to your friend's Google/Apple account upon creation.

If Red Note were relying on Play Integrity it wouldn't run on Chinese phones without Play, which I believe is a lot of phones (info).

Play Integrity can be responsible for many rejections without being responsible for all rejections.

I thought this case would be interesting to devs because its the only time I've ever had an app deny service based on a detected OS.
I just did what N1b suggested. Created a new user, installed GPlay and Rednote, tried to sign in with Google account and got the same message. Then I enabled exploit protection compat mode and I can now make an account. I guess the google account is not marked as suspicious because I used the same account for all attempts. Currently using the app to test if it will ban me.

akakakk In very rare cases, some apps don't work in Android secondary profiles due to hard-wiring certain paths. They can detect they're in a secondary profile. In extremely rare cases, some apps wrongly detect our exploit protection features as people trying to tamper with their app. We've seen this with the secure spawning feature where apps wrongly think there's hooking going on. We think this has been largely resolved since the SDKs doing this likely updated to support GrapheneOS due to it being fairly widely used now. There are still apps which occasionally come up with issues caused by them doing misguided, incorrect checks triggered by some of these features. We could hide secure spawning is enabled by changing the call stack to match what it is without it if people find any apps incompatible with it. We haven't done it yet because we aren't currently aware of any app it would help.

As of using the app for a day, I've had a pretty normal and pleasant experience. I posted comments, and a test post. I like the app it's one of the better social media's I've used with very little time spent building an algorithm or FYP. I'm wondering if i switched exploit protection back on it would deny service or ban me.
