Odd behavior Filemanager

I should bring it up but this problem has existed in the GOS file manager for at least 4 years.

When I want to rename a file or any of the top right menu special operations on a file, I can't do it in every folder. I literally need to browse to the very same folder but go via the /device/data/ navigator. I can't simple go to the 3-dot menu in every open folder and use some of the special operations such as rename.
View details and delete option works every there though
Related. Unable to create new directories if the File manager is open in for example "Downloads" or "Photos" . I literally need to go via /system/data etc in the left menu to end up in DCIM/camera to be in the exact same folder as "Photos" for the Create New Dir option in the 3-dot menu to become available.

This is an obvious usability issue and has been in every GOS release so far. I thought of reporting it now because noone else seemed to complain about it, or people here are using third party file managers?
(I use the default one because its compiled with hardening options)

I think you don't understand the file manager. Those aren't folders; they're categories. "Documents" includes files from my downloads for example, same with audio, videos, etc..
I have never complained because I never expected it to be a file manager. If I want to manage files, I go to the storage option I need (my phone, Nextcloud, Termux and so on).

I actually do quite a lot of file sorting, moving and ordering on the phone. Maybe I should just open for another file manager (any recommendations?)

If those are categories then it makes sense and I should find a more friendly app. It works but lately I have been managing a lot of folders and it would save me a lot of time if I only could create dirs (or rename stuff) directly in the Categories section. It doesn't really make sense for me this is not possible.

Uhnoes all file managers I know of work this way. It is technically not logical to be able to create folders in the categories section. How would the system know where to create them? The feature is not intended for file management, but easier organization and search. I use Material Files as my file manager personally. It has the great benefit of starting in the / directory per default among some other nice features. It still has the categories listed below, if you need them.

I really didn't know this. Thanks for the info. I think I will just try some file managers and see if anything beats the default.
