Nextcloud App All files Permission

Device Pixel7Pro with Android 15 GrapheneOS

Hi, per default nextcloud App only Asks for "Media Files" Permission which prevents uploading any other file that is not classified as "Media file" for example .txt files

Other Android Users found a solution to give the nextcloud app the "All Files" permission even if it does not ask for it:

But I have the problem that only media files are allowed and the nextcloud app does not ask for "All Files" Permission.
With the default "App permissions" I cannot give the nextcloud App "All Files" Permission ( The Option is not there)

So I tried the "Special access > All files access." method. The Problem is that the nextcloud app is there also not listed, so I cannot enable the full file access ( Even If I enable "show system apps" )

What is your use-case for wanting to grant all files permission?

Storage scopes might be a better choice.

ijawefoj I only granted the Nextcloud app storage scopes. Still uploads all files I throw in that folder.

I just checked and my Nextcloud app only has Network and Notifications permissions and I'm still able to auto sync pictures and manually upload all other file types - don't ask me how/why it works without any storage related permissions.

This is due to the restrictions of the Google Play Store:

With the F-Droid version, you are able to allow the "all files access" permission:

Thanks I will try the nextcloud App from Fdroid but before I do this:

The people where it worked without granting "all files access" -> Did you install Nextcloud via PlayStore or Fdroid ?

For me with the google Play Store App, If I choose Upload files and go to a files where there are pictures and .json files I only see the pictures, I dont even see other file types then the "Media" File types

I have the Play Store version, but I don't use the auto-upload feature. I only upload/download files individually as needed. That's why I asked about your use case.

I have enabled storage scopes, without granting access to any specific folders.

I just confirmed that I can manually share a non-media file with NC, and it does get uploaded. Someone on the GitHub issue said they couldn't even do that.

Even though it doesn't seem to affect me, it seems like Google is really crippling NC as a potential alternative to Google Drive.

ijawefoj Neither. I installed it from their github repo (the non-gplay version) and I keep it updated with Obtanium.
