Hello! I installed GrapheneOS on my Pixel 7 phone today because popups about installing Android 15 were scaring me. And I figured there must be some sneaky Gemini crap in 14 already.
I absolutely detest GenAI. Partly due to privacy concerns, partly due to my not wanting to contribute more to destroying the planet and ridding people of creative and cogitative jobs that they need to survive.
I used Signal messaging on my old phone, and I suspect Gemini was already trying to guess what I wanted to type. Not autocomplete or spellcheck. More like my partner messages me saying "I love you," and my text input box preemptively says "Nice!" Yikes. I know what I want to write, and this is both getting in my way and very creepy.
I'm a cybersecurity researcher by profession. Please let me know if installing Graphene without doing things to add Gemini was an effective way to get rid of Gemini. (I understand Gen AI is now built into stuff that runs on the web as well, such as Google Search. I use alternative search engines that don't use Google underneath.)
Someone in this forum posted about how they want to use Gemini in Graphene, and honestly that horrifies me.
Letting Google train their machine learning on everything you do... Why?! Plus plenty of scientific reports confirm that the power grid cannot handle more Gen AI demand and Gen AI is already accelerating climate change. Add to that how Gen AI marketers are making no secret of wanting to replace as much human labour and creativity as possible. There's also Gen AI as a plagiarism machine, and Gen AI making information on the web way, way less accurate and reliable.
