qdczdnyv I was always wondering if Google can modified an app only for a specific user? I was thinking if they target a user and they sent a modified app only to him..... Is there a possibility for them to do that? Did this have ever happened. Thanks!
I will say I am not a expert on this so I could be wrong.
But logically I don't see this being a possibility for a few reasons.
- It would be very complicated to implement a system to distribute a malicious package to specific users and not others especially with how many Google Play users there are in the world.
- Following up from 1. It would be a big amount of effort for Google to do that for pretty much no gain as they don't profit off of that.
- Unless it is one of their own apps I am pretty sure that is very illegal. And even then a targeted attack like that from a trusted appstore could also arguably be illegal in it's own right.
- If word got out about that it would cause massive trust issues for the userbase and may even push some away from Google's ecosystem. Once again not a very good tradeoff for Google to implement such a thing and would probably harm them far more than help them.
qdczdnyv I don't know what is a library....
It can be interpreted in different ways. But the most basic explanation i can give is most of the time it seems to be code that is taken from other projects/repositories to either help make the app possible altogether or just add extra functionality to the app. Like for example if apps want to use Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications they would need to bundle in a specific Google library Into their app for that.
qdczdnyv need time to try GrapheneOS because I have just installed it around a week ago and learning.
No worries! Take all the time you need! This is definitely one of those things you shouldn't rush into anyways as their are plenty of factors a person should carefully consider depending on the person. Take it as slow as you want until you believe you are truly ready to regularly use it and are well informed enough to where you are comfortable.
qdczdnyv I saw in Graphene that it check with their servers instead of the ones from Google. Super happy about that!
Yep! I agree it is quite lovely. They even allow you to disable the connectivity check altogether so no requests are made. That is not the default however as there are legitimate reasons for these devices to have connectivity checks and disabling it might cause breakage.
qdczdnyv There is the notification thing that I have to figure out and the few pairs apps that I am not interested to give up yet....
