I changed the ssid name of my mobile sim router to a ssid of a common router many people have. Lets say it's "acerwifi" for now, and imagine if you turn on wifi on your phone, you will see this ssid (acerwifi) a few times as you walk down the street.
In this scenario the wifi password is saved and auto reconnect is turned off.
(I think) that normally my phone will identify which wifi is fromy router and which is from a different one.
Now i was in public and i did not have the mobile router with me and i was on the look for a wifi access point. Than i saw "acerwifi" on the list. As its a common used ssid it should rase no eyebrows. But underneeth the wifi name it says: saved/auto reconnect is off. Now that raises my eyebrows. There was a person in the area that looked suspicious, right after paranoia kicked in. I was sitting there and about 10minutes passed by, why i was buissy trying out to make a hotspot with a second phone and change the name to "acerwifi" to see if my graphenephone will see it as a new wifi without the saved/autoconnect writing. But it did'nt work. My phone just saw one "acerwifi" accesspoint with full bars. As the person i suspected a potential evil twin attacker stood up and left the area, the vars of the "acerwifi" accesspoint went down, and wiggled around 1-2bars in the next minute. After that i went away from the area too to a house where i know, there is a wifi with the name acer wifi, to compare what i will see, saved or not saved. To my suprise my phone showed me "saved/auto connect off.
So what's going on here? Is it normal that my phone think that random wifi routers are the one it knows? I tgaught there is more information in the play, so phones know which router is wich, regardless the wifi name itself. Is'nt there a mac address that has to match also? Or is it exaclty as i say and someone follows me with an evil twin in his backpack?
