Google play store issues

Hello all.
Ugh.
Computers.
TickTick, one of my favorite apps, just did an update and now it won't open without immediately taking me to the Google play store login page, which does nothing since it's very limited.

In the troubleshooting process I think I uninstalled Google incorrectly and now can't reinstall.

I get:
Unable to download Google Services Framework, Google Play Store, Google Play services: Unable to resolve the server name.
Details:
java.net.UnknownHostException: Unable to resolve host "apps.grapheneos.org": No address associated with hostname.

Any ideas how to fix this?
GmsCompatConfig is still installed.

You'll need to uninstall all the sandboxed Google play services packages.

So click on them in the GOS app store then uninstall for each. You'll probably want to uninstall your problem app, and any other apps you have relying on sandboxed Google play services.

Then reboot your device, reload Google play services and then your apps.

I did all this, multiple times.
Finally it took and TickTick worked just fine...
For a day. 🙄
Then it went back to pulling up the Play Store and I can go no further.

You're absolutely right, I looked in mine and its the same. Last time I had to uninstall them all was on the Android 14 build. Sorry about that.

If you have a Matrix account you could hit the live chat, or wait for a mod to jump in. They know a lot of the OS workings. I'm not sure what else I can offer as a suggestion.

So I got a Matrix account with Element X.
How do I get this discussion to show up there?

The option to unistall appears after clicking three dots in upper right corner on the page with the mentioned settings.

For instance: App store - Google play services - three dots - unistall.

Huh. I didn't see that.
I did figure in out though.
Somehow the apps app didn't have network permissions. 😵‍💫🙄
Grant them and everything installs flawlessly.

The simplest method is open Element app, create new account and just use the matrix home server for your ID. You can search other servers for a more federated ID if you like.

Make whatever name you want to use for your MatrixID. It will ask for an email to send a confirmation link. I'm not sure what other ID confirmation from another device is.

But your accounts aren't linked between this forum and Matrix. I apologize for mentioning Matrix, that's just what I've used. Discord may be easier to use if you like. I have nothing to do with either platform, it's up to what you want to use

Still having the same problem with TickTick.
It doesn't happen with any other app.
Could their devs have written in some code that requires the app to check Google upon opening?
It never did this in the past, nor does any other app that I use.
Or, could this be a user-error issue?

Yes. This is routine for bank apps, for example.

So, short of that, my only solution is to run logged-in Google Play with a dummy gmail address?

I don't know for certain obviously, but it could make your app work. If it's hardware based, like bank apps, then you'd have to deal with the app developer based on that guide. There's a variance of users views on using Google accounts from those that use their primary account on GOS, those that use a dedicated account only for apps, to the burner or no account ever crowd.

It's personal choice for what's acceptable in the end. I don't think there's much more that can be offered.
