So, I have quite a few smartphones in a drawer, including my daily driver, a Pixel 8. I absolutely need the apps Signal Messenger, Waze GPS, and MySudo texting app (all for work). On my Pixel 8, I use GrapheneOS for privacy. It is totally de-Google'd.
Anyway, it seems there's no available dumbphone that will let me have Signal and Waze on it, and especially MySudo, since it isn't nearly as popular as the other two. The other issue with the dumbphones is that it seems I could sideload apps on it anyway, which I know I'd do eventually. So, I am left with somehow just trying to lock down my smartphone.
Where can I start to lock it down and only allow the use of certain apps (banking, the apps I mentioned above, and any other essential ones I'd "need" on-the-go that I can't think of right now)? I live with my GF, so if it comes down to setting a password of some kind, I can trust her with it to hold onto.
My problem, though, is self-discipline with this specifically. I feel like even if I did a password and all that, I'd just factory reset my phone without thinking twice just to remove it, if it got that bad. Anything else in my life, I am pretty disciplined and have self-control. It will also help that I do genuinely want to use my phone wayyyy less, and eventually stop using it all-together.
Reddit (well, I use Infinity) is a huge time-sucker for me. While at work, I usually have RuneScape on the phone to "AFK" train some skills that I only need to tap the screen every 10mins. I already do not use social media, such as: FaceBook, Instagram, etc., however, I do occasionally check X (Twitter) just to see what's going on.
TL;DR: Anyway...all that to say: Where do I start learning to lock down the phone? Can I set X amount of minutes/hours on a per-app basis (would need to still be allowed to use the essentials I mentioned above)? Etc.
