I wonder if it would be feasible to require Apple to open up e.g. AirDrop?
I believe having the possibility of easily sharing files with people nearby should be an open standard, not a proprietary implementation meant to make people owning a specific device feel superior.
Maybe Snapdrop could be used as a reference? Perhaps Apple should be required to open-source AirDrop and/or provide a way (e.g. API, documentation for Android developers) for Android devices to securely communicate with Apple devices using AirDrop? If Apple would absolutely refuse to open-source their implementation, how about having them sponsor research/development of FOSS interoperable applications capable of exchanging data (on a basis similar to AirDrop) for various operating systems: Android, Windows, Linux and maybe even OpenBSD?
Any thoughts?
