Google Pixel 9 is Carrier locked. Is there anything I can do?

Just got Google Pixel 9 Pro. Was planning on installing graphene but my device is not OEM unlockable, says it is carrier-locked (I have Verizon). I have seen online that verizon phones become OEM unlockable after 60 days, so at that point will i be able to install GrapheneOS, or am I just cooked?

justaguytryingtograph Unless it has changed recently, Verizon devices are not bootloader unlockable, even after they are carrier unlocked.

If you wish to run GrapheneOS and the device is from Verizon (or it is a Verizon-software device from a reseller) and you are in the return window, return the device.

The word "unlocked" is used to mean different things. I am unaware of case of any Verizon-specific Pixel being OEM-unlockable ever.

justaguytryingtograph By the way, writing "I read online that [some claim]" is not a best practice on this forum, because pretty much every imaginable claim can be found somewhere online (the Earth is flat, invisible 11th-dimension lizards rule humanity, Elvis is alive and well working as a short-order cook in Alaska, etc.). It is much more productive to cite a source (e.g., to provide a link).

Don't buy a plan that consists of phone and sim. Buy the phone separately from a disassociated seller, and then buy your plan. Otherwise the ability to chop and change, or customise, has been taken from you

This is a bigger problem in USA than elsewhere and Verizon are the worst offender.
