In the meantime, I tried multiple combinations of the app with and without Play Services, with and without exploit compatibility mode in a separate profile. I am hitting just walls at this point.
The only workaround I found was using Huawei's App Gallery, which just works. The app is still on 3.6.0 at the moment, so it may be a matter of time until they may bring some changes to that one. It also needs native code debugging on and Huawei Mobile Services installed as well, although I don't trust then at all, they run just like any other app at least.
I tried to get a hold of them, and asked customer service about what's going on with the app. They said it may be a problem with my phone, so it seems like I might have a feeling about what they did. I also let them know there are apparently others facing the same issue as me, but on stock OS surprisingly (pixel users to be exact, based on the reviews on Play Store). I'm currently waiting for a follow-up with, mayhaps, upper reps or devs.
