Banking apps suddenly stopped working

Pixel 7, latest stable, Play Services installed. Several banking apps suddenly stopped working. I didn't do any app updates, or Play Store updates. 4 hours ago I even paid via NFC, now the very same banking app is showing a "you are using custom firmware" banner and stops working.
The only thing I can think of is perhaps Google Play implementing some integrity checks, perhaps A/B testing, is anyone else experiencing this?

Sounds very much like the app implemented an OS integrity check of some kind.

fid02 Revolut and one of my national banks. Another banking app (ING Homebank) is still working.

fid02 I hadn't used Revolut in a while, I was not aware of that. Then I guess my other bank implemented a similar "feature", thanks for the clarification.

Should we expect Google apps to start using Play Protect at some point? I imagine they would be among the first to adopt it and that would be a deal-breaker for those who use their messaging/camera/keyboard, etc.
