User Profile Question

So slowly chugging along de-googling and moving onto GOS. One post/guide suggested using profiles to keep apps separated. If I set up 2 user profiles and then install the same app in both (say authenticator app) does it use up twice the storage space? Is a new profile like a separate phone within my phone? Or does it share information between profile in some way?

"Apps can't see the apps in other user profiles and can only communicate with apps within the same user profile (with mutual consent with the other app)."
