Hello guys,
I'm newly signed up to the forum and this is my first post here.
Firstly, I'd quickly like to mention that I (as someone who is not particularly tech-savvy) have been using GrapheneOS on my Google Pixel 6 for the past two and a half years, and my experience with it has been nothing but positive and satisfying. So Massive Thanks to the programmers of it !
Now, I was recently given a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, which is generally a very well-designed pocketable little camera, if it wasn't for that pesky coercion to activate the device through that ridiculously data-hungry and permission-greedy spying app that is the DJI Mimo app. Which I definitely do not want anywhere near my day-to-day smartphone usage.
So I thought it would be enough to install that darned app on an old iPhone SE that I still have lying around, activate the device, download the latest firmware to it, disconnect, delete the app and be done with it.
Turns out, you also still need that app for essential stuff like manually adjusting the exposure and certain other advanced video features.
So it looks like my only choice if I want to use the Osmo Pocket on a regular basis is to install that Mimo app in a separate user profile on my (daily driver) Graphene-Pixel 6 and keep it there. ( And on Android, unlike with iOS, you can only download it directly from the chinese-based repositories/servers.)
I feel very uneasy about that, and this is also where my limited IT-knowledge ends.
So I guess what I'm asking is:
Does anyone here have experience with downloading and using the DJI Mimo app on GrapheneOS ?
And how is it best done to avoid personal data leaks to it ? (Is that even possible ?)
And if anyone could hopefully confirm to me: If I keep the Mimo app on a separate user profile (only for the app), it cannot access my daily use user profile with GrapheneOS, or can it ?
If anyone has a useful answer to these questions, thanks ever so much in advance !
