First Steps for a Newcomer

Hi all,
I have just installed GrapheneOS on a Pixel and I have my old phone still as my main as I learn the ropes.
I realize now I should have been reading more 'how to' articles as the various articles and blogs can point in a multitude of directions.
My 'threat profile' really is I just wish to limit/remove the reliance on Google.

Some things I need to learn about:
user profiles (owner, primary, separate google?)
where to install from and how to install from github, aurora or ??? and keep them up to date (automatic with Aurora? or Google or how do I set up RSS feeds)
what does the auditor actually do and verify?

I encourage starting off with reading the material on the GrapheneOS web site:

There's a lot of text there, but the text contains lots of valuable information! And meanwhile there is lots of "information" online which is outdated, misleading, or incorrect. Some web/video sources are generally believed to be more reliable, e.g., Side of Burritos and Naomi Brockwell.

Since the owner profile is special and is used to store sensitive system-wide operating system data, some users create a separate profile and/or Private Space.

Some users use Sandboxed Google Play to install and update their apps while others use Aurora. Obtainium is another popular one. It allows you to install and update apps directly from their release pages on websites such as Github and Gitlab and receive notifications when new releases are made available. It supports over a dozen source websites. For some of the source websites, you'll have to use the "Track Only" toggle. What that does is notify you when an app has an update and you then go to the source website you initially installed it from and update it from there.
