Is optimizing apps paused when I don’t use my phone?

The second optimisation (AFU) will sometimes take hours if I don’t use my phone; if I keep the screen on, it’ll be way faster.

I don’t have a huge number of apps (68 have to be optimised AFU), and it seems I don’t have any kind of battery restriction that would affect this process – what’s its name by the way?

Am I missing something here? This is not a new behaviour with my phone.

Ahead-of-time compilation, as far as I'm aware. Reason for this is from Matchbox's comment in that thread:

This way of doing it is more secure than the alternative. It also makes apps faster when you're actually using them.

leafnose I did notice something similar. Optimizing apps got slower when screen is off. I wouldn't say it takes hours for me, though. It just seems to be a little slower than it was a few months ago.

Also, doesn't the optimization start even in BFU, after a while?

I remember reading that.
I meant that I didn’t know its app name, although there is no suspect in my restricted apps list.
I’m not sure now… is otapreopt the name of the previous one, or the current one?

Still, it doesn’t explain why it can take hours on a Pixel 8. It’s really as if my phone were asleep as long as I was not using it.

leafnose Took quite a while for me last update on my Pixel 7 Pro. Optimizing about 36 apps took nearly 10 hours. But in all fairness, I did have Battery Saver on and that could have affected optimization time. I also felt that when I would unlock my phone, it would progress faster.

I don’t know~~, but I don’t see how it would work with everything being encrypted~~.

As for 2024120900 AFU optimisation, I’m already past 4 hours without touching my phone…

I always have battery saver on and have never noticed it take longer than maybe 15-20 mins? I'll try to pay better attention next time. P7Pro
