Issues connecting to home network devices over opnvpn connection phone/laptop

I have recently installed GrapheneOS on my Pixel 8 Pro and have discovered that if I use my phone as a hotspot I cannot access anything on my home network except my Aruba enterprise WAP and everything else is blocked proxmox, esxi, smb shares, idrac, and home assistant the ip's are all pingable while the vpn is active. I'm also unable to access my smb shares on my phone with the openvpn app as well. I know this is phone related as oddly as it is I can connect and access my network resources through my works network but really prefer not to do that. Is there any way to fix this?

Can you give more details to your setup, as I observe similar.

It may be some routing provided by the hotspot, in my case connecting a Debian laptop, using gnome built-in VPN.
I suspect the 192.168.. address range never makes it through/into the tunnel and deviates beforehand. No DNS leak, resolves correctly.

I can also confirm with the same setup using any public WiFi, the VPN works as intended, no DNS leaks, can access the internet as well as my internal servers over my VPN server at home.
All IPv4 only that is.

Please excuse my little networking knowledge, hopeing someone able to read routing tables can check this. I failed trying to manually add a default route on my laptop to point all traffic towards the VPN 10... gateway address.

I suspect "Block connections without VPN" is on. This will prevent any traffic outside VPN tunnel. To connect to home network you need to connect directly. Usually you have to allow local connections in the VPN client app and turn off the setting I mentioned above.

update: VPN also works via hotspot provided by an iPhone

Hotspot connection always bypasses the phones VPN, this has got nothing to do with the phones VPN setting (at least to my current knowledge)

Sorry for the long delay didn't see an email stating that anyone replied to my problem and have been busy. Like the other persons issue with gnome connecting to the home vpn. It connects just fine but not able to access the resources it even goes as far as seeing the smb shares but when the os mounts it its not able to connect to the folders in that share. Also via FX File Explore the same result exactly as connecting to the vpn on my linux laptop. This is very weird that the phone is blocking access even when technically the laptop is on the vpn and the phone only sees the tunnel not whats flowing as that should be encrypted. The only thing I can think of is maybe the phone is blocking the port.
