What is the likelihood of the developer(s) abandoning the GrapheneOSproject?

I have been using GrapheneOS for 3 years now and really like it.

Having initially read that the OS was primarily developed and is being maintained by a single person (though this may have changed over the past years), I was asking myself the above-mentioned question.

In case it happens: Will someone be able to successfully take over the (open source) project?

GrapheneOS has multiple developers. I think it's something like 6 full time developers and 1 or 2 part time developers.

GrapheneOS was founded by a single person but it hasn't been maintained by a sole entity for years. There are multiple paid developers for GrapheneOS and all major GrapheneOS features developed (and in development) over the past few years have been the work of different maintainers. What do you think about GSoC (Google Summer of Code) ? It's certainly a lot of work for mentors, but it could help the project attract more contributors. It's specially for open source projects.

Generally, contributors are selected based on their ability to solve some simple problems on the issue list.

Contributors who pass the evaluation will receive a stipend. Open source organisations also receive a small stipend at the end of the program. FAQ

May I highjack this thread ? ... (asking the question is already highjacking it, anyway ...)
I can see that the priorities of the devs are ruled by a definite strategy and aiming at a precise goal, step by step. I think I read (can't find the source) that GrapheneOS had a target of getting rid of the dependence with AOSP and of becoming a totally independent OS. I know that GrapheneOS doesn't communicate on estimated times of achievement, but I wonder whether that aim might be reached within - say - 5 years, or if it is a very long-term target.

Dumdum Thanks for taking the source to surface ! But this answer being written quite a long time ago and several milestones being reached (gVisor ported to arm64 and KVM as far as I understand), I wonder how distant is still the "finish line".

I suspect the developer team would need to be larger first. My hunch is it would need to roughly double, maybe more. Growing a team while keeping coherence is not always easy, and growing slowly is one way to keep coherence.
