Delayed notifications and weird theme [pix8]

Hello. For the last week or two, my phone has been acting weird. I don't get notifications when I should get then, but rather after 1-2 hours, and then I get all the notifications at the same time. Something's been weird with theme and colors too, for example, the no profile picture (default grey one) sometimes turn black then grey again all of a sudden. It seems laggy. Anyone else got these kinds of problems? It's a pixel 8.

Update: I can't receive phone calls either...it does not come up any phone calls at all. Only missed ones.

That instagram profile pic thing is very unclear. Please explain with more words and separate different things, with paragraphs or points.

What carrier do you use? SIM or ESIM? airplane mode on? Voice over LTE and Voice over Wifi supported (by router and provider) and enabled in the phone?

missing-root regarding insta: the default profile picture (if you don't add a photo) is grey. It's like a grey emoji. On my screen they turn black but when I update the page it turns grey. Grey colors turn to black and vice versa. The main problems is with notifications and phone calls they don't come through, only missed ones. I use SIM card with airplane mode when I got wifi access. It has never been a problem (I've had gos for around 7-8 months). My settings are the same as they always been, but I noticed that after an update these problems have occured. I know of another pix7 with the same problems with the notifications and this happened around the same time.

Well 1. Is likely an Instagram Problem. Maybe just use a black image as profile pic XD like really, we cannot to sh*t about Instagram. They dont care about us, we can be happy they dont use Play Integrity for whatever reason.

May be Voice-over-Wifi then. Check your settings or nobody can help you. Or it is your home router. Not all routers support such calls. Or it is a carrier thing.

I only get notifications after the fact with MS Teams, Outlook and Threema, for example. That wasn't the case before...

It looks to me as if the app does not stay open in the background. The notification only appears when I open the app. I have activated unrestricted background use in the app settings. What could be the problem?

I've been having the same issues with notifications for the past week or so. Never had that problem before.

@brad @Graph500 @Smlvox Does Play services have the battery usage exemption? Check Settings > Apps > Sandboxed Google Play > Play services app info > App battery usage > Allow background usage. It should be set to "Unrestricted".

muhomorr It is and has been set to unrestricted. I've been using GOS for about 3 years now and never had this issue before

Want to echo that I am seeing the same issue with notifications, where I don't get them for a while, and then suddenly get a barrage of the notification queue.

Also using a Pixel 8, with the build number 2024111800.

Same issue with notifications. I noticed the problem starting last week with Proton Mail notifications being delayed haven't noticed it elsewhere yet. Pixel 9 Pro XL GOS Build 2024111800. Google Play Services has allow background app usage enabled.

I have just learned you can tap on allow background usage and it will have more options like unrestricted as mentioned above. In my case Play Services was set to optimized so I changed it to unrestricted. However, I have never had this problem before so not sure changing the setting should be needed unless something changed on the OS side.

Now to wait and see if this solved the problem.

Sadly, changing play services to unrestricted background usage did not solve issue.

Thank you for looking into this, and for your contributions to the wonderful project.

Play Services battery settings was set to Optimized, so I changed it to Unrestricted. I will see if this resolves the issue, but like nate066 mentioned, I previously didn't have this issue for the year that I've been using GOS with the default Optimized setting for Play Services.

My Google Play Service version is 24.41.34, the latest version available for the stable channel that I am on.
