Problem with OAuth2 for Gmail when using K-9 app

Hi, there are a lot of posts on topics adjacent to this one, but I'm having trouble triangulating the existing posts for my specific problem. I am trying to get my gmail working on the K-9 mail app running on Graphene. I think it is a Graphene configuration problem because the same setup works on my old phone running /e/ OS. It is blocking me after it sends me to the browser to log in, after I've entered my credentials. I get the old "This app is blocked" message. I have installed the Sandboxed Google Play Services and Store, and have tried with multiple browsers, including Chrome.

I would love to confirm, first of all, that what I'm trying to do is not impossible for some reason on Graphene OS, and second of all, to hear from someone who is doing it this way. I'm hoping that, because K-9 is one of the recommended mail apps for Graphene, that someone else can help me out. I'm running Graphene on a Pixel 8.

Where are you seeing this message? In the K9 app or in the web browser after having signed in to your Google account? If the latter, it sounds like you have previously (perhaps inadvertently) blocked K9 as an app that is able to connect to your Google account. Go to your Google account settings page > Security > scroll down to "Your connections to third-party apps & services" and tap on it > see if you find K9 in the list and can unblock it.

Check your google account settings, K-9 works flawlessly on GrapheneOS and doesn't need play services.

fid02 It's in the K-9 implementation of my default browser that it launches for OAuth2 authentication, which includes logging into my Google account. I had forgotten you have to permit K-9 to be used in Google, but when you mentioned it, I remembered setting that up for my current phone (which is working). One thing that occurs to me is that I did an export/import of my settings from my old phone to my Pixel 8 running Graphene. I'm thinking now that I should delete the imported gmail account/settings and re-add it fresh. There may be some configuration optimized from the setup on /e/ OS that is conflicting.

This unfortunately didn't work.
For clarity, the message in whole is:
"This app is blocked. This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account. To keep your account safe, Google blocked this access"

Also, I have not activated 2-factor authorization on my Google account. Could that be affecting things?

I'm going to assume that Google is telling the truth as to why they blocked the login. This sounds like an app/Google issue, not a GrapheneOS one.

Try Thunderbird for Android, it is the K-9 successor since K-9 was merged into Thunderbird. K-9 will be supported for another year before being sunsetted.

tomz That was it! I mean, sort of. I didn't really fix/change anything, but Thunderbird for Android just worked out of the box when I logged in. Was even able to import settings from my old phone's K-9 app.
