BundID and AusweisApp on GrapheneOS?

I have the AusweisApp, which is even OpenSource.

To proceed I need to scan an NFC chip in my ID card.
At this step it always failed.

Does this require play services, is the app just incompetent, or is this a general Android limitation?

Do you know an alternative solution?

missing-root you do have NFC enabled? It's off by default in GOS. How exactly does it fail?

The app prompts me to enable NFC. It is off, I turn it on, but the app still says NFC is off.

The only permissions it wants are Network and I also granted Sensors, a restart of the app now shows something when pairing the device and it detects NFC.

Just tells me my ID is not found?

missing-root hmm. Do you have a separate device you could test this on? Are you sure that the NFC antennae inside the id card are functioning normally? I don't see anything special about the app, should just scan via NFC and go.
Edit: last thing, are you using it in the owner profile?

It works on my pixel 8a with installed play services

I recommend activating NFC before opening the Ausweis-App.

Yes owner profile, not sure about the ID card, might need to ask the city I got it from

missing-root yeah either that or try to restart the phone or even use a different user profile and see if it works there. They also seem to have a Github with direct releases, so maybe try to download it there?

Yeah I have the app through Obtainium and NFC is not the problem. I think it must be the card

missing-root You could try a simple NFC reader app that shows you if the card works. I usually use 'NFC reader' from FDroid (https://f-droid.org/de/packages/com.github.muellerma.nfcreader/).

Must have been the work profile? It worked well in the main profile.

The source is open, the EUPL is not very peemissive but sounds fine.

I couldnt find anything about how a modified version of the app could be distributed.

But the app can be modified and distributed freely, and every copy must allow to view "machine readable code", which is a bit sus, could mean Assembler or machine code, so that is worthless if you ask me.
