  • One-time SMS codes hidden as sensitive notification content

Hi all:

I use KDE Connect on my Pixel 8 running GrapheneOS 2024110700 mainly to sync one-time codes to my PCs so I don't need to always have my phone text to me. This is immensely useful because I get a lot of one-time codes throughout the day.

A few weeks ago whether because of a GrapheneOS update or KDE Connect, not sure which, when these SMS texts get sent to a PC their content is hidden saying "sensitive notification content hidden." I have Sensitive Notifications turned on in Notifications and "show conversations, default, and silent" for Notifications on Lock Screen.

Anyone know what might be causing this issue? Not sure what software is responsible for this behavior - I don't have any other notifications being hidden like this, and I would like to turn this off even if leaking this info is a little less secure.

Thanks!

    finnblue8 you might try this:

    • go to Settings -> Notifications
    • disable "Enhanced notifications"
    • restart KDE Connect on GOS

I don't know if this will work, but it worked for another app that I use (OTPHelper). This is most likely due to a recent change in Android 15: "While digging through the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 update, I discovered the addition of a new permission named RECEIVE_SENSITIVE_NOTIFICATIONS. This permission has a protectionLevel of role|signature, which means it can only be granted to applications with the requisite role or to applications that the OEM signs. While the exact role that grants this permission hasn’t been defined yet, it’s likely that Google doesn’t intend to open this permission up to third-party apps."
