Totomoto I recommend these settings, go;
Settings > System > System update > Require battery above warning level: ON
and on the same settings page:
'Automatic reboot': OFF
This way, you should get promted before the post install reboot, and sufficient battery for the operations.

You could also in advance have a 80% limited charged device, and during update keep it plugged into a powerful charger. This way the battery gets less exposed to the anticipated heavy load. It wouldn't be hot from neither charging, nor discharging, since it holds at charged and the phone mainly gets power from being plugged in, again, if that charger is powerful.
This is not an advice for every day charging, just for updating setups with a large number of apps and only if planning in advance is practical.

If i've got really heavy lifting upcoming, sometimes I take a cold thing from the fridge and let the phone be near it.

This app has a good custom window for e.g. battery temperature.

The ones which are needed but only rarely, make their update source a bookmark, save the apk if unsure about the bookmark, then uninstall.
Some apps have good backup features for their settings, making returning to them easy.

Thanks! The idea with leaving the phone plugged in is actually not bad, although it still heats up quite a lot even with a 30w pd charger with pps. I actually put the phone next to a fan and plugged in sometimes.

It's just a ridiculous setup with the fan and all that considering I just want to protect myself from surveillance capitalism, not nation state actors. But oh well...

By the way, when using something cold from the fridge on a hot phone, aren't you worried about condensation inside the phone?

Everyone has their use cases and can use their own phone as they need or like. That's the beauty of android compared to iOS. You really shouldn't judge people for the amount of apps they have of all things, that's like judging a bike commuter that his daily bike rides in every weather seriously compromise the designers security intents. Like, no shit, but it's worth it?

I think charging wired but with a fan would still be better for thermals but looks interesting. Certainly better than wireless charging without cooling.
