SMS app STILL has issues

First of all, the SMS issues in secondary profiles that makes other apps read OTP impossible is fixed by GOS. However, there are still issues with the default AOSP SMS app. One main issue bothers me is:

Create secondary profile (build 2024110400)
Enable Call and SMS to the secondary app.
Wait for an SMS to receive while using secondary profile
Confirm that the new message notification arrives.

You can see the new message notification did arrive but there is no new message shown in the app. (Only sometimes, sometimes it will)

Workaround: Using any other 3rd party messenger app in both owner and secondary will fix the issue.

Since using 3rd party SMS app is frowned upon, I hope GrapheneOS does fully fix their SMS app.

secrec people here generally strongly recommend using preloaded apps for SMS, Contacts etc. rather than using 3rd party apps.

someone27281 So... "people" huh? And you're not able to point to any instance of this recommendation. Got it.

Android is designed SPECIFICALLY to allow you to replace some of these applications with ones that suit you better, and especially in the case of the SMS application, the one that grapheneOS ships with is just a "bare minimum" placeholder that nobody is telling you to keep using. There are tons of better options, like QUIK.

And for the dialer, one of the biggest reasons to use the one that GrapheneOS ships with is because of its ability to record calls, which requires the dialer to be installed as a system application, so installing any alternative dialer will break call recording. Aside from that, knock yourself out.

Contacts? Genuinely nothing forcing you to keep using the one it ships with, aside from the question of "why bother" changing it? It does the job quite well.

pml what do you mean by that? There is no "changing contacts app". You can use as many contacts apps as you want.

pml Sounds to me like you're not understanding how these systems work. Things like contacts, calendar, SMS, and so on are stored and controlled by system level databases and functionality. The applications you use to interact with those systems are nothing more than an interface through which you access the system level functionality. You can use multiple contact applications at the same time and they will all work and interact with the same data.
