[deleted] Getting off from Telegram (Since it is not encrypted anymore and just a Data collecting Place for the Government
Groups were never encrypted, not that it matters much since messages are publicly available anyway.
[deleted] SimpleX Group instead but at the moment I think it is limited to 20
There's no limit to SimpleX group sizes. The lead developer thought they wouldn't scale as much as they have but there are some very large groups on SimpleX. There is an unofficial GrapheneOS group that has just over 900 "users" in it. The issues with SimpleX are: the bridge software that we use to bridge the other rooms doesn't support SimpleX, a lack of moderation tools on SimpleX, and (until the super peers update assuming all goes well) SimpleX isn't a good platform for groups.
[deleted] I don't like Signal because it requires a Phone Number, I would say that this could be a good Alternative
They have a hard limit on group sizes, which is 1000 if I remember correctly, and I don't believe the bridge software supports Signal either.
[deleted] Getting off from Discord
We understand that some people don't want to use Discord, so Matrix and Telegram are still options. But we actually have a lot of people on Discord. Removing that as an option now would mean losing all of those community members.
[deleted] People are making calls there
I'm not sure I follow, but the Discord rooms only allow sending text messages. I don't use Discord outside of GrapheneOS rooms, so I don't know how it works, exactly, but I guess whatever feature you're talking about here is disabled for our rooms.
[deleted] Because I feel like that People who are for Privacy should not use unprivate Chat Rooms, Calls and Social Media. I feel like only Open Source Plattform and Apps should be used.
We already use Matrix and GrapheneOS has been using Matrix for quite a long time, but issues with state resets have caused very big issues in the past. Discord was added as an alternative option because it's actually stable and reliable. And, again, public rooms' messages are publicly available, so the privacy thing isn't as big of an issue.
[deleted] Getting of from Matrix (Because they have this metadata Problem - even tho it is encrypted, it is not Zero Knowledge, so they can see it.)
If we get rid of our Telegram, Discord, and Matrix rooms, then we're left with nothing. Yes, there are issues with Matrix, but the public rooms are still public, so they're not encrypted anyway. Encrypting them wouldn't make any sense and may lead to them breaking faster, being slower, or just being less reliable in general.
[deleted] Getting off from X
I can understand that some people don't like X... But having a presence on X is also important because of how many people use it. Public posts are posted on all of the listed social media accounts: X, Mastodon, and Bluesky, as well as here on the forum, so GrapheneOS users can follow public announcements and informational threads there.
[deleted] Getting of from Bluesky
It's available so people have options.
Anyway, just to make this clear, these are my thoughts on your suggestions. I wasn't a moderator when some decisions were made, so I can't say what people's thoughts were when they made these decisions. Maybe another moderator or our community manager will come by later and share other thoughts.
