Help! Graphene OS Won't Load anymore!

Hi, I needed to change by device password and I failed to understand the duress password was different than the regular password so I set them to the same code and when I entered the code, my stupid system now keeps loading to GraphenOS Recovery. What do I do from here? I just need to get back into my phone!

Sorry to say, your device is completely wiped. You won't be able to recover your data, but you can reinstall GrapheneOS using the instructions on the website.

taemex Interesting that the Duress PIN takes precedence over the device PIN. Your device is wiped now tho.

taemex If your device is booting into Recovery after a duress-password wipe, choose "Factory reset". Don't worry too much if it gives you something that looks like an error (sometimes that happens). After "factory reset" it should boot into the setup wizard. Do check that the hash on the yellow "other OS" screen matches the hash for your device in the installer instructions.

On a reboot, will Graphene be loaded, or do I have to flash Graphene OS to ROM again? It seems that Graphene OS automatically loaded so I don't think so.

taemex no, it's just like a factory reset. You can just set it up as if it was freshly installed and use it. And maybe don't set your PIN to your duress pin again for good measure.

DeletedUser88 it doesn't. He tried to set a new PIN which was the duress PIN in that case. The regular PIN takes precedence over the duress PIN, but his old one wasn't changed yet and the password field was enough for it to trigger.

Man, so irritating. Yes, lesson learned... I'm a dumbass! I will never ever again set my Duress PW to be the same as my phone PW. God...

So, just a quick Q I might as well ask here I guess, how do I install my contacts from Google back onto my phone? CONTACTS has no Import/Export button, despite what internet searches say.

taemex if contacts are saved in your google account, you should log into your Google account and they will come
OR, you can actually export your contacts if you log in the web version of Google contacts from a computer preferibly

It did not work. First of all, when you log into Google, CONTACTS has NO Export. Second, CONTACTS on the Graphene OS has no IMPORT. Third, I had to install Contacts App by Google LLC. Obviously I am using Graphene OS to get away from Google products. This is disappointing.

EDIT: That didn't work either damnit, lol! Even the Google CONTACT app, while it shows my google account, does not load my contacts. This is sooooooooooo frustrating right now. I can't believe how much time I am wasting on this....

Also the default contacts app on GrapheneOS can import contacts. Go to Settings inside the contacts app, and you will see the import.

Got it! I could not find any IMPORT in the default GrapheneOS contacts. I clicked on literally every single option and I can assure you it is not in the CONTACTS app. Having said that, I found a way to make it work. I was able to export my google contacts via the download button (no goddamn export option, and HELP is entirely unhelpful, if anyone cares). Then I clicked on the vcard file and all my contacts are imported. Soooo counter intuitive. If the devs read this, add an actual IMPORT button to contacts please, with the option to connect to your contacts page of your Google account. I just wasted easily 2 hours on this.

At the top left of the Contacts screen, is there an icon with three parallel horizontal lines? If so, is there an "Import" function under "Settings"?

The GOS Contacts app does have Import functionality.

Open the Contacts app, tap the three horizontal bars on the top left corner, tap the Settings option.
"Import" is the 4th option up from the bottom.

Tested on build 2024103100.

Next time - slow down, do proactive backups of your important data in advance, and ask questions from the community to clarify your understanding before messing around with risky duress wipe features. Folks here are happy to help with polite questions.

To both De0u and zzz, I don't what to drag this on any longer, but I swear to Jesus Christ IMPORT is NOT in my install of Graphene OS in Contacts! Yes De0u, there is a SETTINGS, but no IMPORT. The FOURTH option from the bottom is, from the bottom actually: ABOUT, ACCESSIBILITY, VOICEMAIL, BLOCKED NUMBERS... There is literally NO Import. I even clicked on every one of those... multiple times. I regret to inform you it is simply not there in the lastest edition of GrapheneOS, sorry!

taemex Actually I think you are looking at the wrong place. The 'Contacts app' we mentioned is an actual application separated from the phone app. Based on your description,

You might have been looking at the Contacts menu, which is inside the Phone app, not the Contacts app.
