GrapheneOS Gallery Suggestion

I did read this on X from GrapheneOS:

"For Gallery, we want to outright replace it with another app. There are better open source image/video viewers available with acceptable licensing but none has a good enough editor yet."

And directly in my Mind came Fossify Gallery, because I used it a few months with it's Editor and I saw many other recommending it too. Would that be a possible Option for GrapheneOS to consider?

[deleted] There is nothing stopping you from disabling AOSP Gallery and replacing it with Fossify Gallery. I use it too. But some may prefer to use Aves, Ente or Google Photos. I wouldn't want to force a particular app on whole userbase. This is why I think there is nothing wrong with standard preinstalled apps, which may lack features but function perfectly well and are safe, otherwise they wouldn't be part of GrapheneOS.

DeletedUser69 I know but here it was not about me. You did not get my point. And disabling System-Apps is not recommended, as I remember.

[deleted] important system apps (and default apps) cannot be disabled in the usual way (but via ADB) and that is what we are warned not to undertake. It is okay to ask questions but it is uncalled for to suggest things and try to swerve opinions without proper background knowledge (which I don't dare say that I have).

I don't like the idea of Fossify apps being included as system apps, at all. I use their calendar app myself, but that's for lack of a better alternative. In my experience, they either lack features (CardDav support for their contacts app was added just a few days ago!), are full of bugs and they also lack a proper update schedule with critical fixes for said bugs being delayed for no reason. The release cycle for new updates regularly takes months. If you want to use these personally, as others have said, do so while keeping the risks in mind. There is no problem with disabling the default gallery app or calculator as long as you have a valid alternative. In my opinion, the choice of AOSP apps is not perfect, but at least it's manageable to fix broken code instead of introducing a new upstream party that doesn't seem to be able to handle the stress they have right now.

What a ludicrous statement. I think he doesn't understand what "security" means. Like Firefox and Tor Browser fixing their critical 0-day or Nextcloud Talk being exploited or hundreds and thousands of other examples. Honestly, after reading his response, I'm not sure if I should keep using Fossify apps at all. Such an approach to security seems quite dangerous and most likely suggests that no one takes it seriously.

Yeah, waiting one month to fix the Fossify Keyboard and then saying Sorry for (unintentionally) locking you guys out of your devices. is some next level stuff. Bugs like these (involving data loss) should be fixed within a day, maybe two if we're talking weekends. Not a friggin month!

DeletedUser87 Yea, I agree! I was thinking the same...It seems that he believes Security is only when someone opens an Issues with a Problem...Because he confirmed that, by saying "If and when security issues are discovered"
And I feel like he wanted to escape that they are not good in this by saying that Security is more on the System than the App...And that he says: app developers rarely push security updates is such a lie...Or when he says this: Fossify apps will be updated in a timely manner to patch them - Yea 8 Months is a timely manner...Yea I left them in the past for their bad Update policy...Oh wow that is bad...I feel you!
