Looking for secure email provider

I'm planning to migrate out from gmail and looking for a paid secure pure email provider.
I have a somewhat uncommon but short list of requirements.

Must have:

Strong and secure authentication for mailbox access because currently, email is a single point of failure in terms of password reset for most if not all currently available online services. If some adversary can access your Inbox he can reset your password and own all your online accounts.
Ability to use my custom domain
Supports an unlimited amount of email aliases

Not particularly interested in:

Privacy-oriented features like end-to-end encryption. Because most of my emails pass through Gmail \ Office 365 on the way to my email recipients therefore Google and Microsoft will read my email correspondence anyway.
Integrations with third-party applications like Contacts, Calendar, Cloud storage, etc. Because I use my own self-hosted NextCloud server.

Could some one suggest anything?

If you're using your own domain you can have all the aliases you want anyway, no?

You're already self-hosting a NextCloud server. Just add postfix + dovecot + roundcube and configure them appropriately for your needs and integrations.

You can subscribe to SimpleLogin (owned by Proton) separately for $30/year for unlimited aliases.

However, I think you'll still have to pay for Proton to use a custom domain.

Edit: but you may have cheaper options then, depending on how many custom domains you need.

Duo is for 2 individuals. Maybe I just missed it in your original post but I didn't see you mentioned that you need two accounts. If you only need one account you can have the Unlimited subscription for €10/month if you subscribe for one year and I believe you can have it for €8/month if you subscribe for two years.

Mailbox.org exists as well and supports custom domains. I use mailbox.org and can't complain, but don't have any experience with custom domains.

After looking for email only, I have no need or wish for all the bells and whistles, I could not find email only, so I compromised. I settled on Mailbox.org. and I am glad I did.

essentially with email, unless you run a mail server yourself, you have to trust some one some where, to run your mail service, There are plenty out there, just read up carefully before you swap.

The site looks uninspired, but it is legit. $10 per year. I use them as my main email provider.

You might also try and self-host your own email server. It is quite a headache to set up, but a big satisfaction once it runs. Make sure anyway that you provide your self-hosted system with a high standard of security.

I seriously considered deploying my own email server.

But most experienced home-labers I trust - strongly recommend against hosting email at home lab or any cloud provider because of heavy deliverability issues they call it a huge headache. They reluctantly admit that nowadays you can provide reliable mail deliverability only through a handful of big and established email providers.

Besides, I access my Nextcloud server through Tailscale without exposing it to the Internet directly. But on the other hand, I seriously doubt that I can provide enough security for my own email server which must be directly exposed to the Internet.

I've done this many years ago but haven't for a very long time as it seemed like spam email filters were discriminating against these. Are you having success in staying out of spam filters? Maybe I should re-visit this idea

rellhom Yes, I am no longer on any blacklist. The one that I was on has been interrupted.
I am switching to having my self-hosted email address become my daily driver. For now all my emails seem to have been delivered. But I suppose you have to have a static IP in order to achieve that.

funny enough I think google was blocking a lot of email addresses incoming to their gmail customers, I hope that is still not a thing, I really liked self-hosting and the control it could give me for aliases, etc.

Eirikr70 yeah, a static IP as well as PTR records. It also seems that residential IPs will often get blacklisted.
